The Impulse: EU-Model Project "Soft Mobility in Tourism Destinations 1996 - 97" The Austrian Ministry for Environment, Youth and Familiy has supported the creation of the Europe-wide network for sustainable mobility in tourism. This is based on the EU-Model-Project "Soft Mobility in Tourism Destinations" from January 1996 to July 1997 in the framework of the action plan for the promotion of tourism by the EU-Commission DG XXIII, Tourism. The pioneers for softer mobility in the Alps also initiated the foundation of NETS:
