October 2006 Contest "Ecologically sound Travel in Europe."

The conference "Ecologically sound Travel in Europe. Challenges and Innovations Facing Environment, Transport and Tourism" from 30. - 31. January, 2006 in Vienna is preceded by an European contest for Best Practises.

Subject-matter thereby is ecologically compatible mobility in Tourism and Leisure. Aim of this contest is to award practical projects, activities and initiatives embedded in the contradictory context of Tourism and Transport, which bring the sectors Ecology, Mobility and Tourism in line.

A special focus lies on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects. The winning projects will be presented to a broad public in the frame of the conference and released in internet. Date for Submission: 7th of October 2005. Contributions online in German or English.

July 2006 "Mobile Erfolge"

A report in the tourism magazine "bulletin" (July 2006) that presents prized tourism projects dealing with "soft mobility". Karl Reiner was interviewed as expert.

May 2006 Lecture at a "Intergroup" - Session of the European Parliament
NETS was invited to give a lecture at an Intergroup-Session of the European Parliament, topic: "Tourism and Railway". For Best-Practice, the Alpine Pearls were introduced to the audience.

February 2006 Access to web based training tools for tourism trainers and destination managers

The Training for Tourism project has been developed as part of the European Commission’s Leonardo Da Vinci program.
Its main objective is to provide training tools for trainers and tourism employees working in destinations who wish to develop their knowledge of sustainable tourism.

'Challenges and Innovations for Environment, Transport and Tourism'

On 30th and 31 of January 2006 a European Specialist Conference with the Title "Ecologically Sound Travel in Europe. Challenges and Innovations Facing Environment,Transport and Tourism", will be held in Vienna, Hofburg. This Conference under the umbrella of the Austrian EU Presidency is invited by the following ministries: Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Environment and Water Management, Federal Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Federal Ministry of Economics Affairs and Labour.

NETS AWARD - Towards Sustainable Mobility in Tourism
At the ITB Berlin 2005 the NETS AWARD 2004/2005 "Innovative holiday trips by train" was awarded for the first time in Europe!

On Monday the 14th of March the winners of the NETS AWARD "Innovative holiday trips by train 2004/2005" were awarded at the ITB Berlin by Eugenio Yunis, World Tourism Organisation (WTO), department for sustainable development in tourism and by Robert Thaler, Austrian Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management.
